Van Awesome Out of Prison

Dutch star Ricky Van Awesome celebrated his release from prison in Amsterdam by hitting the town on a 24 hour drinking binge. Managing to stay out of trouble this time, Van Awesome hit the stage with local punk band Chicago Ten, and signed autographs for fans.

Van Awesome was unavailable for comment, but his agent, Stijn Pieters told press that his client was simply ‘letting his hair down’ and is ‘pleased to be out.’

Vuckic injured in car accident

Czech competitor Anto Vuckic has suffered a broken arm and cracked ribs after being involved in a car accident just ouside Prague. Vuckic is looking at several weeks on the sidelines, and has said that he will not be returning to EWS Television until fully healed.

Vuckic was contacted for a telephone interview with Czech Television, and said that he was ‘comfortable but disappointed.’

Ivana celebrates debut win with free concert

Slovakian pop star turned wrestler Ivana celebrated her debut victory in EWS by putting on a free concert in Bratislava. She told the crowd in attendance that she was delighted to be back home, and hoped that she could continue to surprise and excite as she improved her skills.

XSC Presents EWS Episode #2

Fireworks launch their colours noisily into the sky, and Tamara Deloure welcomes the fans to EWS Episode #2, live from the Helliniko Arena, Athens.

Deloure: ‘Welcome back ladies and gentlemen. Last week was the beginning of a new era in wrestling, and we started of with a blockbuster of a show. Over 20 wrestlers showed themselves on EWS television for the first time, and 8 competitors made it through to round 2 of the Pan European Title Tournament.’

Ronan O’Shea is alongside,

O’Shea: ‘Not to mention we saw some hot women and some brutal cricket bat action. The big boss man showed his face and a possible family feud is developing between the Fuentes’ and the Torvinis!’

Deloure nods in agreement,

Deloure: ‘That’s right Ronan, we kicked off with a bang. This week, the final 8 matches of round 1 of the Pan European Title Tournament will decide who joins the 8 competitors to progress from last weeks show and the 16 competitors given a bye into round 2. To recap, the wrestlers that made it through last week were;

Miguel Conceicao (Portugal

Hamish McCallister (Scotland)

Jakub Dvorak (Poland)

Destruktor (Greece)

Vita Sagrinovich (Russia)

Davide Giulietta (Switzerland)

Marco Torvini (Italy)

Owen Nothin’ (Wales)’

O’Shea smiles and looks at the camera,

O’Shea: ‘Tonight, we will see the debut of our Swedish, Georgian and Irish representatives amongst others. Speaking of Irish representatives, I can see one right now!’

Natasha is shown sitting in the front row, looking intensely at the ring and entrance area.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Jose Bruno makes his way out to the ring. He tells the Greek crowd that he is the finest cruiserweight in all of Europe, but that the EWS management refuse to let him compete in the division because he is too heavy. He says that last time he weighed himself he was a steady ‘215lbs’ and that when the announcer says he weighs 223lbs it is a lie. He says that he will put on a master class of speed and agility for Jenny Lund, and that she has no chance of victory.

Lund appears at the top of the ramp, accompanied by Swedish team mate Erik Gustavsson. She looks genuinely excited and the former weightlifter gives her some last minute advice before sending her into the ring.

Bruno starts the match in charge, hitting Lund with a series of clotheslines and then launching her high into the air with a back body drop to demonstrate his superior strength. He continues to throw her around the ring, hitting a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and standing splash before pinning her for a near fall. Gustavsson continues to shout his encouragement at ringside as Bruno dominates physically, the only brief respite coming as Lund reverses an attempted powerbomb into a hurracanrana. Bruno is quick to recover, and slings Lund into the corner before flinging her across the canvass with a turnbuckle assisted monkey flip. He hits his feared Brunotality, and Lund is down, but instead of going for the pin, Bruno heads up top and looks for a frog splash. Lund is able to roll out of the way of the manoeuvre and capitalises on the opportunity with a quick roll up for the 1, 2, 3!

Winner via pinfall: Jenny Lund @ 5:23

Lund is helped from the ring by Gustavsson, showing signs of the near complete physical domination exhibited by Bruno. The Portuguese competitor is still in shock in the ring as he calls for a microphone and tells Lund that she is ‘mannish and wrong’ for taking on and beating a male competitor. Lund does not respond to Bruno as Gustavsson helps her up the ramp, but a close up shot seems to reveal she says something about being ‘too fat for the cruiserweight division.’

Natasha is shown once again in the front row, watching intently as Lund is helped away. Bruno continues to sulk in the ring until Marco Antonelli has to ask him to leave, as the next match is due to start.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Stefanie Klinger heads out to the ring, dressed in a full business suit. O’Shea comments that it’s ‘unusual’ wrestling attire. Klinger addresses the audience and immediately begins to verbally attack the women in the arena for ‘dressing inappropriately’ and ‘shaming the female gender.’ She comments on Jenny Lund and says her ‘skimpy clad beach volleyball kind’ are not welcome in EWS and that women need to learn to cover themselves up and maintain some dignity. The crowd is less than impressed, as is Loic Favier, who runs down the ramp and commences the match.

Favier throws Klinger to the ground and is particularly brutal, laying into her with punches about the head and neck. The crowd are not appreciative of the brutality of the attack, and Favier makes it clear he is not concerned. He quickly figures out that Klinger is desperately trying to keep herself covered up, and starts trying to tear at her clothes. The crowd continue to display their displeasure as Favier manages to remove Klinger’s jacket, before losing patience altogether and taking advantage of her lack of fight by nailing the Hit N’ Run before covering a stricken Klinger for the 3 count.

Winner via pinfall: Loic Favier @ 1:57

Favier is heavily booed as he exits the ring, and makes no attempt to pretend that he cares. Klinger is helped to her feet by some stage hands, but gets little sympathy as she is escorted away.

Wrestling consultant Tony Smith makes his way to the ring. The founder of the company gets a great reception from the Greek crowd.

Smith: ‘Thank you very much ladies and gentlemen of Athens! This is a spectacular turn out for our second show! I’ve come out here this evening to make an announcement regarding one of our title belts. The Hardcore Title will be up for grabs on Episode 6 of EWS, and it will be in a bring your own weapon free for all!’

The crowd cheers.

Smith: ‘Anybody on the roster will be able to compete, and by the end of the night we will have crowned the first ever EWS Hardcore Champion!’

Smith retreats to the back, the fans licking their lips in anticipation of the violence that the match will bring. O’Shea is clapping Smith away at the announce desk.

O’Shea: ‘This is brilliant news. We have our first title match announced, and it’s my favourite!’

Deloure: ‘I would have thought you’d be more a fan of the Women’s title!’

O’Shea: ‘Don’t get me wrong, that comes in a close second, but I love a bit of violence!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Saure heads out to the ring, his right thigh heavily bandaged. He beckons for a microphone.

Saure: ‘I have not had clearance from my doctor to compete in this match. As you can see, my injury has not healed. But I, Jean-Francois Saure, am the most accomplished technical wrestler in the world, and I don’t need to be at full strength to defeat some horrible little pop singer. Come out here, Miss Ivana, so that I may show you how to wrestle.’

The crowd boos Saure, but cheers heavily when Ivana appears at the top of the ramp. She high fives the members of the audience in the front row as she makes her way to the ring, and does a little dance on the apron, much to Saure’s disgust, before climbing through the ropes.

Saure starts the match fast, knocking Ivana down with a fierce clothesline. She tries to get to her feet, but he blocks the attempting with a knee to the side of the head. Ivana slumps to the mat and Saure covers her for a near fall. Saure continues the assault, stomping on Ivana before lifting her to her feet and attempting to hoist her over his shoulder for a shoulder breaker, but his leg buckles and he drops to the mat. Ivana sees her opportunity, and begins to kick wildly at Saure’s injured leg, and retreating before he can get his hands on her. She tries this one too many times however, and a Saure grabs a handful of hair and drags her to the mat. Saure locks her in a series of arm bars and stretches, but Ivana is able to wriggle free once more. Saure begins to lose patience, and over extends himself, leaving himself vulnerable to a mic check! Ivana hits her DDT and rolls up Saure’s bad leg for the pin, getting the 3 count.

Saure looks disgusted as Ivana celebrates around him. He hauls himself up via the ropes and manages to knock the Slovakian down with stinging right forearm before exiting the ring to a crescendo of boos.

Winner via pinfall: Ivana @ 6:06

O’Shea gets up from his announce position and personally helps Ivana to her feet, letting her drink in the applause from the crowd before some backstage staff escort her up the ramp.

Morgan Schieber catches up with Didier De’Salle, who was eliminated from the Pan European Title Tournament last week.

Schieber: ‘Didier, how do you feel this week, having watched Jenny Lund, Loic Favier and Ivana all progress to the next round of the tournament, knowing that you will not be there to face them?’

De’Salle: ‘Well I don’t feel good, Morgan, you can be damned well sure of that. What kind of a question is that anyway?’

Schieber: ‘I was just trying to get an assessment of your mood.’

De’Salle: ‘Well put this in your assessment. Destruktor, this isn’t over. We are not done. I hope to God that you win this tournament, so that when I kick your ass I can take that title away from you.’

Schieber: ‘So you still have your sights firmly set on the Pan European Title?’

De’Salle: ‘More than that; I can make a guarantee to you right now. I WILL win that Title, I WILL be able to walk out in front of my own compatriots as the champion of Europe, and I WILL become the most dominant champion in EWS history. This is a guarantee.’

Schieber: ‘And a very confident one!’

De’Salle: ‘I’ll show you sooner than later an indication of my level of confidence, you can trust me on that. Just because I’m not wrestling on the card, it doesn’t mean I won’t be making an impact.’

De’Salle walks off, disappearing into a locker room.

Schieber: ‘Thanks for your time Didier! Back to Ronan and Tamara at ringside!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Gustavsson makes his way to the ring with his tag partner Jenny Lund in tow. The big man takes his time as Lund enthusiastically interacts with the crowd, seemingly focussed solely on the match. He stands in his corner patiently as Achvili appears and enjoys his reception, acrobatically jumping over the top rope to enter the ring, and the bell signals the start of the match.

The early exchanges are frantic, Achvili using his speed advantage over Gustavsson to hit a dropkick and a flying lariat. Gustavsson shows his resilience and bounces back from the impact of the moves before showing his 100lb weight advantage by catching an attempted cross body and reversing it into a fall away slam. Achvili does his best to shrug off the impact but finds his progress stalled by a shoulder breaker and a near fall from Gustavsson. The big Swede begins throwing the Georgian around the ring, slamming him hard into the ring post and driving a brutal shoulder into his lower chest. Achvili kicks out of another attempted pin before head butting his way out of an attempted power bomb, following up with a dropkick and leg drop. Gustavsson easily kicks out though.

Lund continues to rally her compatriot from the outside, and he continues to show his strength advantage. He hits the Georgian with a couple of strong clotheslines before hitting a successful powerbomb, but the resilient Georgian kicks out again. Achvili continues to fight back, trying to out manoeuvre Gustavsson but showing signs of fatigue. After ducking a monstrous clothesline, he manages hit a dropkick off of the middle turnbuckle, but is unable to follow it up with a pin attempt. After being thrown into the corner and being hit with a sidewalk slam, Gustavsson manages to lock in his patented Goteborg Love bear hug submission. Achvili struggles to break free, but the grip of the big Swede cannot be broken. Achvili begins to wilt, and the referee looks ready to call it when the Georgian summons his remaining energy to once again head butt his way out of the hold. Gustavsson looks stunned, but manages to reverse the resulting DDT attempt and hits Achvili with a brutal double handed choke slam for the 3 count and victory.

Winner via pinfall: Erik Gustavsson @ 11:53

After Antonelli announces the victor, Gustavsson helps Achvili to his feet and the two shake hands, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.

Their moment is short-lived, however, as Jean-Francois Saure, now supported by a crutch, appears at the top of the ramp.

Saure: ‘I have seen enough of this amateur hour crap. Tonight, all that has been laid before my eyes is meat head thugs like this guy here, and bimbos flouncing about in the ring, devaluing themselves and the sport I love. I will not stand for this, I will not be a part of a company that allows this kind of rubbish to be broadcast to the world. And since I am not going to change, I will have to insist that the EWS changes to suit my needs and desires.

The crowd starts a slow clap in an attempt to quiet Saure down, but he doesn’t seem to care.

Saure: ‘You can say what you like, you ungrateful Greek toads, but you will be happy when the rubbish is gone and this company showcases only the best quality wrestling in the world. Goodbye.’

Saure drops the microphone and retreats slowly to the back, and Lund, Gustavsson and Achvili leave the ring.

O’Shea: ‘I don’t think I like that guy Saure, he complains too much.’

Deloure: ‘More of a Jenny Lund fan I don’t doubt’

O’Shea: ‘She has a certain something I can’t put my finger on.’

Deloure: ‘And I urge you to keep your fingers away from her!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

The mysterious Hierro enters the ring through the crowd, catching everybody by surprise. He leaps over the ropes and removes his cape before standing and watching the ramp. He doesn’t have to wait long before Jimmy O’Neill appears, followed by his brother Seamus, both donned in emerald green. Seamus is giving his younger brother some last minute advice, but Jimmy seems to be requested that he shuts up. Jimmy enters the ring and Seamus adopts a position at ringside as the match kicks off.

Hierro starts the match with speed as his ally, hitting O’Neill with a series of quick arm drags, bring the larger man to the mat early on. Seamus continues to shout encouragement as Hierro hits a couple of quick elbow drops before looking for a springboard that Jimmy avoids by rolling out of the way. Seamus cheers in support as Jimmy starts to use his power advantage. O’Neill launches Hierro into the corner and hits a succession of shoulder thrusts before stomping the Spaniard to the mat. Lifting Hierro to his feet, O’Neill hits a delayed suplex, rocking the mat hard with the impact. Seamus urges the pin attempt but Jimmy lifts the Spaniard to his feet again, and swings him against the rope, before nailing a picture perfect powerslam. He continues the assault, Hierro kicking out of 2 near falls. O’Neill’s frustration starts to build up and after hitting another suplex and again missing out on the 3 count, he lines up for the spear tackle but misses, hitting the ring post shoulder first. Seamus gets up on the apron, shouting at his brother for being to impetuous. Jimmy stumbles to his feet, and is hit by Hierro, launching himself from the top turnbuckle with a devastating missile drop kick. O’Neill hits the deck, and Hierro bounces off the middle rope for the Catalan Chaos and gets the 3 count for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Ignacio Hierro @ 7:42

Seamus gets into the ring and lifts Jimmy to his feet, and gets a shove in the chest for his troubles. Jimmy leaves the ring, holding his shoulder, and Seamus follows him up the ramp, shaking his head. Hierro disappears quickly into the crowd. O’Shea is amused;

O’Shea: ‘I’ve never seen a guy disappear so quickly after a win, where’s he off to?’

Deloure: ‘Not everybody is an attention hog like you Ronan.’

O’Shea: ‘That’s harsh Miss Deloure!’

Deloure: ‘But true!’

O’Shea: ‘Oh I’m not denying that!’

Deloure: ‘Anyway, from one of your compatriots to one of mine now, as we see the debut of Anna Pinot. And here she is…’

Anna Pinot appears at the top of the ramp, blowing kisses to the crowd as she heads down to the ring. Once there, she beckons for a microphone.

Pinot: ‘Hello everybody! It’s great to be back here in Greece, where I competed in the Olympics several years ago. I have been wrestling for 4 years now, and it is truly wonderful to be invited to compete in the European Wrestling Society, and I am looking forward to entertaining everybody and meeting wonderful fans from all over Europe. My opponent tonight, Chris Matthews, is a wonderful athlete, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish him good luck, and I hope that we can put on a show worthy of your applause!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Matthews makes an unassuming entrance, heading down the ramp to the ring without really acknowledging the crowd. He shakes hands with Pinot as a sign of respect before the bell rings and the match gets underway.

Pinot starts like a house on fire, using her lightness to good effect as she dances out of the way of a couple of clotheslines and hits a dropkick to the back of the Englishman. She follows it up with a jawbreaker and a tornado DDT and a stunned Matthews is down for the 2 count. Matthews is quick to his feet and there is a pause between the two as the crowd applaud the early efforts. They tie up, and Matthews over powers Pinot, taking her to the mat and slowing her down with an arm bar. She manages to get to the bottom rope and looks to establish some momentum for herself, but after over reaching with a spinning heel kick attempt, she finds her self on the end of a dropkick and then a tasty standing splash for the 2. Matthews is quick to his feet again, and catches a stunned Pinot off guard with a jumping calf kick. Pinot stumbles back into the corner, and Matthews runs at the French competitor before propelling her across the canvas with a monkey flip. Matthews sees his chance, and climbs to the top turnbuckle before looking for a frog splash. Pinot gets her knees up however, and Matthews is left reeling. Pinot begins a period of dominance, hitting a series of quick clotheslines and kicks, and coming close to a pin with both a DDT and bulldog. Matthews remains strong however, and fights back using his power, ending a series of back and forth with a monstrous sit out spinebuster for a two count. Pinot continues to be the victim of powerful moves, kicking out of a DDT, a flying lariat and series of snap suplexes. The crowd begins to back both competitors, cheering the continued show of resilience from both. Pinot manages to get back on top by ducking a clothesline and hitting a reverse DDT. A groggy Matthews gets to his feet and Pinot goes for La Triomphe, but Matthews reverses into a DDT before leaping off of the ropes for the lionsault and a well earned 3 count.

Matthews has his hand raised by the referee, and accepts the cheers of the crowd before preventing Pinot from leaving the ring and asking the crowd to cheer for her too. The two competitors exit up the ramp together.

Winner via pinfall: Chris Matthews @ 11:48

Heikie Jones heads out to the ring, where some EWS staff have set up a cardboard cut out of her, and a table with some merchandise on it. She grabs a mic.

Jones: ‘Hello EWS! This is my first appearance on EWS Television and I am so excited to be here. Some of you may know that I have recently released a fitness DVD, for those of you hoping to get into bikini shape. I thought what I would do tonight, just for my Greek friends in attendance, is to host a little aerobic class. How does that sound?’

There is a mixed response from the crowd, and from the announcers desk.

O’Shea: ‘That sounds like a great idea to me!’

Deloure: ‘You looking to get into shape are you Ronan?’

O’Shea: ‘Of course not, my job is to commentate on this spectacle for the people at home!’

Deloure: ‘Such a dedicated professional!’

Jones takes off her tracksuit to reveal a fetching leotard underneath, and attaches an earpiece microphone. She signals for some dance music to start and begins dancing from side to side…

Jones: ‘Ok, let’s get your hands above your heads!’

Out of the front row comes Natasha, vaulting over the barricade and flying into the ring. She takes Jones down with the Fire Island, and begins decimating her with unrelenting stomps. Jones frantically tries to cover up, but is unable to protect herself. Natasha throws the table over, and takes down the cardboard cut out, ripping it in half and ejecting it from the ring. Jones gets to her feet but is met by another fierce Fire Island from Natasha, who gets to her feet amongst the boos from the crowd and stares at the prone Jones. She removes her cloak and drapes it over the German before calmly leaving the ring and exiting through the crowd.

O’Shea is left speechless;

O’Shea: ‘….’

Deloure: ‘I would say that we’ve just seen a stunning statement of intent from Natasha here, but her actions really give no indication of what she is intending at all!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Dimitri makes his way down to the ring, shaking hands with member of the Greek crowd and shaking his arms and legs to get himself ready to start. Nesinho hits the ramp shortly after with an explosion of pyro, and energetically bounds down towards the ring, sliding under the ropes and standing on the top turnbuckle, arms aloft. The bell rings and the match is underway.

Nesinho starts enthusiastically, taking Dimitri down with a leg scissors and hitting a couple of running elbow drops before nailing an enziguiri after an attempted kick is blocked by the Russian. Dimitri, initially taken aback by the speed of the youngster, manages to slow the bout down with some quick witted reversals, taking Nesinho down to the mat and nullifying his fast paced attack by going after his left knee with a series of leg locks. He continues his assault, driving his knees into the thigh muscles of the naturalised Brazilian. Nesinho fights back, and manages to hit Dimitri with a double footed drop kick, forcing the Russian back into the corner. Dimitri manages to avoid the oncoming shoulder charge, and takes advantage of the slip by Nesinho to hit him with a sharp DDT.

The attention of the crowd is drawn to the entrance ramp, where Olga Novenko is seen walking down to the ring, looking intently at the action as it unfolds.

O’Shea: ‘What’s she doing here?’

Deloure: ‘There was a hint of an issue between Novenko and Dimitri last week, but we have yet to receive and explanation of any kind. Maybe we will learn more tonight?’

Dimitri notices the change in atmosphere and spies Novenko outside of the ring. He manages to focus on the match though and hits 3 snap German suplexes in succession on Nesinho. He brings the Czech athlete to his feet and whips him against the ropes. He swings for a clothesline but Nesinho ducks it and hangs on to the ropes. Dimitri looks to clothesline the youngster out of the ring, but Nesinho slides out of the way and straight into the referee! Novenko, on the other hand, leaps on to the apron and guillotines the off balance Dimitri on the top rope, and he stumbles back into the centre of the ring where he is met by a hurracanrana and pin by Nesinho for the 3 and the win!

O’Shea: ‘Novenko has cost Dimitri the match here! When are we going to find out what the hell is going on?!’

Deloure: ‘Well obviously not right now!’

Novenko leaves, smiling to herself as Dimitri slowly gets to his feet with his is hands on his hand, unsure of exactly what happened. Nesinho celebrates.

Winner via pinfall: Nesinho @ 4:17

Deloure and O’Shea are replaced on screen with the graphic for the Pan European Title Tournament.

O’Shea: ‘Ok, with one match left in Round 1 of the Tournament, we have a pretty clear picture of what Round 2 will look like. After last week and the matches so far this week, these are the matches scheduled to be spread across episodes 3 and 4:

Ryan Harvey (England) v Miguel Conceicao (Portugal)

Natalya Onoreva (Russia) v Hamish McCallister (Scotland)

El Gato Grande (Spain) v Nesinho (Czech Republic)

Deloure: ‘It’s all shaping up nicely. There is just one more match to complete in round 1, and we have that for you now as Hans Schmidt of Germany takes on Prince Frederic of Monaco for the right to face Dutchman Ricky Van Awesome in round 2.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Prince Frederic is first to head out to the ring, preceded by 10 members of his Royal Guard. They flank the entrance ramp and salute him as he saunters past and down to the ring. Once in the ring, Prince Frederic looks scornfully over those in attendance, and reacts with a sarcastic wave as they begin to boo him. Hans Schmidt soon appears at the top of the ramp, and looks at the Royal Guard, still in place, with suspicion. He walks past the first couple of guards with no trouble, and his look of suspicion changes to one of satisfaction very briefly before Prince Frederic gives the signal and a 10 on 1 assault begins.

O’Shea: ‘This is sound strategy from the Prince. The match hasn’t started so he can’t be disqualified.’

Deloure: ‘Sound as it may be, it’s still cheating and he should be punished.’

Schmidt is thrown around and mercilessly stomped and punched by the guard, and after a couple of minutes he is rolled into the ring, barely able to acknowledge the ringing of the bell to commence the match.

O’Shea: ‘This isn’t going to last long…’

Schmidt stumbles to the centre of the ring, his face bloodied, and falls victim to a vicious DDT from the Prince, who covers for the easy 3.

Deloure: ‘Not the climax to the show we were looking for!’

Winner via pinfall: Prince Frederic @ 0:22

The Royal Guard join the Prince in the ring and congratulate him on his victory. A couple of them remove Schmidt from the ring.

O’Shea: ‘Well, it looks like Ricky Van Awesome might have a lot to deal with when he faces the Prince and his bodyguards!’

Deloure: ‘It also looks like the bodyguards could soon have to earn their money!’

Der Hammer appears at the top of the ramp and runs down to the ring. He fights off a couple of the Guard and begins laying waste to the rest of them with lefts and rights, throwing several over the ropes. Prince Frederic makes a hasty exit, disappearing into the crowd to avoid any violence, and Der Hammer is left standing proud in the ring.

Deloure: ‘It looks like a flashback to last week! Der Hammer really wants to show his dominance!

O’Shea: ‘It’s not exactly like last week!’

The crowd noise rises once more as home favourite Destruktor makes his way down the ramp. He climbs into the ring and goes nose to nose with Der Hammer, the two exchanging insults in their native languages as the home crowd urge their compatriot to lay into Der Hammer. It’s the German that snaps first, and the two engage in a frantic exchange of fierce right hand punches. Each time one seems to get the upper hand, the other battles back. The two of them are so engrossed in battling each other that they fail to notice Didier De’Salle running down the ramp with a chair in his hand!

O’Shea: ‘It’s getting tasty in here!’

De’Salle slides into the ring and cracks the chair over the head of Der Hammer, much to the enjoyment of the Greek crowd. Destruktor is caught off guard, and gets a brief moment to look into De’Salle’s eyes before the Belgian hits the Legendary, and leaves him sprawling on the canvas. De’Salle stands triumphant in the ring as the show draws to a close.

Deloure: ‘EWS returns with Episode #3 next week!’

New Title Belt Announced

EWS Advisor Simon Emerald announced yesterday that the management committee has voted on the addition of a Television Title to the available EWS Championships.

Emerald spoke to the assembled press:

‘I firmly believe that the opportunity to compete for EWS gold on every show will interest roster members and viewing public alike. Make no mistake though, this is not designed to be a ‘cheap’ title that changes hands frequently. Athletes will have to work hard to earn their shot at it, and I’m sure as hell that whoever holds the belt will work their hardest to keep it.’

There was no confirmation on when the Title would first be up for grabs, however.

XSC presents EWS Episode #1

EWS Episode #1 kicks off with a shower of pyrotechnics, lighting up the sky above the Verona Coliseum and illuminating the arches with a multicoloured glow. A decent crowd of just over 5,000 screaming Italians let off party poppers and stand to welcome the beginning of a new era. Marcus Lever, owner and Chief Executive of the European Wrestling Society, makes his way on to the stage with Wrestling Consultant and EWS brainchild Tony Smith. After the crowd finally dies down, Lever welcomes them to a fresh start in the wrestling business.

Lever: ‘Today marks the culmination of years of hard work on Tony’s part, and a substantial investment from myself. Tony’s vision of a European wrestling family was enough to convince me to help him bring this altogether, and what a wonderful sight it is!’

Lever goes on to thank all of the EWS backroom staff, and the many ‘talented and eager’ wrestlers that have signed up to be part of this ‘momentous journey.’ He hands the microphone to an emotional Tony Smith, whose bottom lip quivers as he says that tonight is the night that his ‘dream becomes a reality’, and that he feels like a child at Christmas. He says he wants to thank all of the ‘future legends’ of EWS who are out the back, ready to go, and going to ‘make history’. Finally he thanks the fans for showing up, and says that with Lever helping him, there can be no holding the EWS back.

Smith leaves the stage, arm defiantly raised, and the crowd are ready for the show to begin. Miguel Conceicao and Anto Vuckic make their way out to the ring to begin the first match in EWS history.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Conceicao starts strong, showing his physical power and lifting Vuckic all over the ring. Vuckic resorts to trying to cheat early on, spitting in Conceicao’s face, hitting him with low blows and holding on to the ropes. As Conceicao realises what’s going on and that Vuckic is getting away with it, he tries to cheat too, until he pulls the referee in front of him to take the full impact of a Vuckic clothesline. With the ref out cold, Conceicao hits the ‘Roar of the Lion’ but there is nobody to count. Vuckic manages to drive Conceicao into the ring post, and grabs a chair from the first row to hit him with. As the ref regains consciousness, Vuckic only just manages to get rid of the evidence. Conceicao looks in a bad way but battles back before being hit with a ‘Balkan Buster’ by Vuckic. In going for the pin, Vuckic is careless, and Conceicao rolls him up with a handful of tights for the win. Conceicao enjoys his victory as Vuckic is left struggling to comprehend how he managed to lose.

Winner: Miguel Conceicao via pinfall @ 12:32

We head backstage with interviewer Morgan Schieber, who catches up with Greek competitor Destruktor. The giant towers over her and she doesn’t get the chance to ask any questions before he grabs the microphone.

Destruktor:  ‘I am here to destroy all I face. I will start with Didier De’Salle tonight, grinding his bones to dust and drinking his blood. I don’t care who is in the ring with me, they will all fall victim to my power and strength. Everybody needs to know that Destruktor is here for one reason only; to become Pan European Champion.’

Schieber has nothing to say as Destruktor pushes the microphone back into her chest before leaving.

Hamish McCallister hits the ring, microphone in hand. He says he can’t stand ‘pretty boy woosies’ like Scott L’Enson and, for that matter, all of the greasy Italian playboys with their ‘useless vanity.’ This causes some amusement amongst the female members of the crowd, until McCallister accuses them of being ‘brainless clothes hangars.’

Scott L’Enson appears on stage, and promptly tells McCallister that he is right to envy his looks, he’s a good looking guy, but comparing him to the Italians is pointless since everybody knows thar Swiss people are a million times better looking. The crowd reacts unfavourably, and L’Enson tells them to take a look in the mirror before heading down to the ring to face McCallister for a place in the second round of the Pan European Title tournament.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

McCallister starts the match fiercely, hitting L’Enson with hard lefts and rights, over and over.  L’Enson takes a battering and is dismayed to see blood coming from a cut above his eye. L’Enson manages a brief fight back, hooking up some shots of his own, hitting a DDT and scoring a near fall. He tries a bit of speed based offense, hitting a couple of dropkicks but missing a cross body. This gives McCallister his opening, and he drops L’Enson with a backbreaker and a couple of fierce clotheslines, before hitting his patented Cabre Toss for the win.

Winner: Hamish McCallister via pinfall @ 6:21

After the fall, McCallister continues the assault, stamping on L’Enson’s head and rubbing his boot in his face, until Davide Giulietta heads out from the back to protect his compatriot and tag team partner. McCallister laughs as he heads to the back and Giulietta helps L’Enson to his feet.

Teresa Campos heads out to the ring, saying that she can see where the Swiss boys were coming from. She knows she is beautiful too, and is not happy about the prospect of being in the ring with Jakub ‘butt ugly’ Dvorak. Jakub hits the ramp laughing and heads down to the ring.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Dvorak goes for the tie up, but Campos pulls away with an unhappy look on her face. Dvorak goes again but Campos cowers. He laughs and she slaps him across the face, hard. Jakub smiles and takes her down with the Polish Pride for the 1, 2, 3. Jakub enjoys the adulation of the crowd and Campos sheepishly gets to her feet.

Winner: Jakub Dvorak via pinfall @ 0:49

We head backstage where we see Scottish competitor Scampy Burns sitting on a table, drinking out of a whiskey bottle. Vampo walks past.

Scampy:  ‘Oi, vampire man, would you like a drink?’

Vampo:  ‘I don’t drink.’

Scampy:  ‘What, vampires allergic to whiskey are they? Haha.’

Vampo:  ‘Are you laughing at me? You, a little Scottish joke, laughing at me?’

Scampy:  ‘Hey pal, I’m not the one walking around pretending to be the living dead.’

Vampo:  ‘You think it’s an act do you? You’ll see, Burns, you’ll see.’

Scampy laughs and falls off of the table.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Destruktor stomps out to the ring and literally roars at De’Salle as he sprints down the ring to get the match going. The two competitors exchange furious blows, and it doesn’t take long for the match to descend into an all out brawl. Destruktor tries to hit some of his power moves, but De’Salle gets out of all of them with a succession of headbutts, gut shots and even biting. Destruktor gains the advantage with a low blow, and then almost gets the pin by leaning on the ropes, but the referee sees. Destruktor then almost gets a win by holding on to De’Salle’s shorts. De’Salle complains to the referee about Destruktor’s cheating, but the referee says he can’t call what he can’t see. Destruktor hits one final low blow out of the referee’s view and De’Salle snaps, grabbing a chair from under the ring and beating both the referee and Destruktor to the ground with it, as the crowd go wild. De’Salle drinks in the cheers and heads to the back as Destruktor and the referee lie in the ring.

Winner: Destruktor via DQ @ 13:43

Ronan O’Shea hits the mic and lets all those in attendance know what to expect on EWS episode two, coming direct from the Helliniko Arena in Athens, Greece. He tells the fans in attendance that the second show will see the final eight matches from the first round of the Pan European Title Tournament:

Stefanie Klinger (Germany) v Loic Favier (Belgium)

Jean-Francois Saure (France) v Ivana (Slovakia)

Erik Gustavsson (Sweden) v Alexander Achvili (Georgia)

Ignacio Hierro (Spain) v Jimmy O’Neill (Ireland)

Chris Matthews (England) v Anna Pinot (France)

Dimitri (Russia) v Nesinho (Czech Republic)

Hans Schmidt (Germany) v Prince Frederic (Monaco)

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Sagrinovich waits in the ring, looking intently at the ramp. Henderson appears and looks at the crowd, holding a cricket bat in his hand. Sagrinovich looks puzzled as Henderson continues into the ring, still holding the bat. The referee tells Henderson to put the bat down, Henderson refuses and shoves the referee. The referee disqualifies Henderson! He shrugs his shoulders and then hits both the referee and Vita Sagrinovich around the head with the bat, before calmly retreating back up the ramp.

Winner: Vita Sagrinovich via DQ @ 0:00

Morgan Schieber catches up with Harry Henderson backstage, straight after his ‘match.’

Schieber:  ‘Harry, why did you just sacrifice your match in such a way?! It’s officially the shortest match ever!’

Henderson:  ‘There’s something you lot will soon learn about me my little crumpet – I don’t care about matches or titles, and I don’t care about win loss records. I just hit a man over the head with a cricket bat on TV, and I’m getting paid for it! I love it!’

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Giulietta heads out to the ring, accompanied by L’Enson, still looking banged up from his encounter with Hamish McCallister. Fuentes comes out with a mic in her hand, saying how she thinks it’s funny that L’Enson needs his ‘little bodyguard’ to protect him. L’Enson wants to shut her up, Giulietta tells him to calm down, he’ll ‘take care’ of it.

Fuentes hits the ring and the two lock up. Giulietta gets the early advantage, using his size and strength to keep Fuentes at bay. Fuentes fights back, using her speed and agility to evade Giulietta’s offense. Spurred on by the support of the crowd, she hits a cross body, and then gets a near fall with a springboard moonsault. Several dropkicks and a DDT later, Giulietta is on the ropes and Fuentes goes for the Hispaniola. L’Enson, however, pulls the ropes down at the exact right moment, and Fuentes crashes to the outside. Dazed and unsteady, Fuentes is easy pray for Giulietta, who hits the Swiss Army Knife for the 3 count.

L’Enson makes his way into the ring, and the two Swiss competitors surround Fuentes, ready to pounce. Jose Fuentes runs in for the save though, chasing them off and helping his sister to her feet.

Winner: Davide Giulietta via pinfall @ 9:24

Olga Novenko is seen walking towards the locker room backstage. Dimitri is heading in the opposite direction and extends a greeting, but Novenko simply ignores him, and continues walking. Dimitri shakes his head and mutters something in Russian under his breath.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Marco Torvini hits the ramp, closely followed by Gianni and Celia. He smiles as he nonchalantly enters the ring and waits for Stathis Lamamitis. The Greek ladies man emerges and saunters to the ring, kissing the hands of a few females fans before winking at Celia as he climbs through the ropes. Celia holds Gianni back.

The match starts off slow, Lamanitis seemingly more focussed on Celia Torvini than Marco. Marco grabs his attention with a succession of arm drags, Lamanitis counters with some arm drags of his own and a nice standing senton for a near fall. Torvini hits back by slowing the bout down, locking in some armbars and leg locks, culminating in Lamanitis grasping for the ropes to escape a figure four. Lamanitis shows his resilience though, by fighting back up to a vertical base and connecting with an enziguiri and some perfect drop kicks. He looks to end it by going up top, but Celia distracts the referee as Gianni pushes him face first from the top turnbuckle. Marco manages to bring himself to his feet before connecting with the pizza cutter for the 3.

Winner: Marco Torvini via pinfall @ 4:17

Gianni and Celia enter the ring, and Gianni takes the microphone. He tells the Verona crowd that they haven’t had the leadership of a good family for far too long. They react badly. He tells them that the most fearsome bond is that between family, and that the EWS should be prepared to bow down to the most superior family in wrestling – the Torvinis. Marco and Celia begin congratulating him on his speech, but are interrupted by Jose and Monica Fuentes, telling the Italians that they know nothing about family honour, and that they will never amount to anything in the EWS. Gianni and Marco beckon them to the ring to prove it, but out steps Simon Emerald, EWS advisor. He says he loves family feuding, it brings in the ratings, and that means money. But this isn’t the time or the place. He officially announces that, at the conclusion of the Pan European Title Tournament, we will see the Fuentes’ facing the Torvinis in a family feud match. He reminds them who pays their wages and tells them to behave before exiting.

Pan European Title Tournament Round 1 Match

Nothin’ starts the match hot, but Novenko proves her adaptability, managing to reverse and dodge many high flying moves. Nothin’ gets on the offensive strongly, hitting a couple of lariats and cross bodies. His over confidence is almost his downfall a couple of minutes in, as Novenko manages to reverse a suplex attempt for a near fall. Novenko manages to hit a couple of kicks of her own, but a missed clothesline allows Nothin’ back into the bout and he takes control. He nails a DDT, sending Novenko to the mat and climbs to the top turnbuckle, hitting The Dragon before wrapping up the victory. Dimitri is seen watching the action on a monitor backstage, shaking his head.

Winner: Owen Nothin’ via pinfall @ 4:33

Nothin’ celebrates in the ring, but his celebrations are cut short as Der Hammer trundles down the ramp. The big German clambers into the ring and attacks Nothin’. Although Nothin’ does his best to keep the German at bay, the power of Der Hammer is too much, and after hitting a succession of power moves, he drills the Welshman to the mat with the Hammer Blow.

The show closes with Der Hammer posing over the prone body of Nothin’, motioning that the belt is his and screaming at the fans in German.

French competitor Jean-Francois Saure has reluctantly broken the silence regarding his thigh injury. In an appearance on French television on Friday October 22nd, Saure admitted that he is struggling to be ready for his match with Ivana on November 12th.

The thigh muscle injury that he has suffered is apparently not responding well to treatment, and it will be very close to the event itself where a final decision will be made as to whether he competes. Sources within EWS seem to indicate that the company is preparing for the possibility of replacing his match with Ivana with a performance by the Slovakian singer, who herself has been unavailable for comment.

Excitable Hauser, well known for his enjoyment of extreme sports, leapt out of a Cessna C-172 30,000 feet above Frankfurt, Germany, and performed a series of aerobatic manoeuvres before parachuting into the drop zone. It was a tandem jump, and cystic fibrosis sufferer Dieter Lippiss was his passenger, having won a competition to take part. Hauser, whose younger brother Sebastien suffers from csytic fibrosis was delighted with the fundraising result.

‘Cystic fibrosis is an ailment that I know all too well, and I was delighted to be asked to help raise money for continuing research and aid. Dieter is a cool kid and I hope he enjoyed his jump!’

Announcement made on EWS Women’s Championship

EWS Wrestling Consultant Tony Smith announced via his personal website today that the European Wrestling Society has drawn up plans for the Women’s Championship.

‘The formula is simple,’ commented Smith. ‘The women that get furthest in the Pan European Title Tournament will face off against each other to become the first ever EWS Women’s Champion. Obviously this means that it could be a one on one match, or a 4 person battle royale. Whatever happens, the first female Champion will be crowned following the conclusion of the Pan European Championship Tournament.’

Nothin’ wrong with Owen

Welsh highflier Owen Nothin’ dazzled fans in Cantabria, Spain this week, defeating local wrestler Juan Antonio Rebosio in a thrilling bout.

In a post match interview, Nothin’ was said to be ‘delighted’ with how he performed, and he stated that he would be ready for ‘anything Olga Novenko has to offer’ in their forthcoming match.

Saure injury doubt?

French Veteran Jean-Francois Saure has reportedly suffered a thigh injury during training. Early reports suggest that he could be out of action for approximately six weeks.

This timeframe would mean that Saure will struggle to be fit for his match against Ivana, scheduled to take place on EWS Episode #2 on November 12th. Saure has been unavailable for comment.

Wrestling Consultant Tony Smith spoke to the press regarding the tournament;

‘Everybody starts in the EWS equal. The Pan European Championship has no weight or gender restrictions, and what better way to demonstrate this than to have a tournament featuring the whole roster? Any one of the 48 wrestlers that we have signed have the talent to lead this company, and it is with that in mind that the Tournament was created. I for one am excited to see how this pans out, and am looking forward to the guys and girls of the EWS providing some solid competition and spectacular entertainment to our fans.’

The seedings for the tournament were drawn at random by EWS reports Anna Morales and Morgan Schieber at a special press conference from the Lincoln Hotel in Lyon, France. The Torvini family will be especially happy with the draw, since both Gianni and Celia have received a bye to the second round. Other happy competitors will include Scotland’s Scampy Burns, Iceland’s sole representative Kristian Torvursson and the mysterious Vampo.

Full brackets for the tournament were published shortly after the press conference and can be found here.
